Brownfields
The state's new Office of Brownfield Remediation and Development, located at the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), is helping communities and businesses take advantage of our highly successful and nationally recognized Brownfield Programs. We offer flexible tools to deal with all brownfield issues, including gap financing, seed capital programs, corporate tax credits and our environmental libability insurance program.
To conduct a customized search and to broadcast a profile of your property requirements to brokers and economic development officials throughout Connecticut, call Connecticut's Business Response Center at 1-800-392-2122. Or, you may access sites directly through CERC SiteFinder® database. In addition, DECD has an array of programs to assist you, particularly in the redevelopment of propertites affected by actual or perceived environmental contamination.

Programs and sites also are available through the Connecticut Brownfields Redevelopment Authority (CBRA). CBRA offers sales tax exemptions on capital expenditures, favorable financing, special tax arrearage exemption and exemption from payment of fees for any convenant-not-to-sue. A new grant program, Brownfield Assessment Grants, enables municipialities, developers and investors to conduct initial investigations of known or suspected environmentally contaminated properties at no cost.
